We went outside and wrote on the field about the book we are reading 'Hello Sailor' thinking about how the characters felt. We then created a conscious alley and tried to convince the character to act in a different way.

Lost and Found

This week Year 3 have been writing poetry inspired by World War One. We have been thinking about how the soldiers and their families felt about them returning after the war had ended.

Boom! The big nasty bombs slid across the dangerous no mans land.
The terrible, damp trench was a galaxy of evil people.
Bang! I could hear sniper guns being fired by the grumpy Germans.

My cosy, warm, turquoise cottage is calling me with tears.
My wonderful wife is patiently waiting for me.
The children are cheeky monkeys excited to see me.
At last I will be home.
Ryan

Boom! The bog black bombs skid across the dark brown mud.
The terrifying, tired trenches were a mad prison with angry rude rats.
The rats were scary ghosts creeping around you.
If you try to get out the guards will kill you.
Memories are haunted by my lost best friends.
At last I am free from the terrifying chains.

Funnybones Inspired Stories

This week year 3 have been writing narratives using inspiration from Funnybones! Here are some extracts...

This is how the story being! In the gloomy city, down the pitch black street, in the black as night house three skeletons lived. Flabbergasted, there was a colossal skeleton, a miniscule skeleton and a floppy, cute rabbit! Have you ever seen such boisterous skeletons? Keira

Yawning, the three skeletons, who usually wake up early, had a little lay in. A couple of seconds later they felt bored so they had a little think. "I know let's go to White Hart Lane and petrify somebody!" whispered the dinky skeleton. After dusting their manky bones, they creepily walked to White Hart Lane, although it was a rainy day. Ryan.

Buy it! Buy it! You've really got to try it!

Glorious Gloriana!

This week Year 3 have been focusing upon non-fiction. They wrote very imaginative news reports about Gloriana, the Queen's barge. We hope that you enjoy them!

Total Eclipse

In 4E we learnt about the solar eclipse.  Then we create videos and books about what we had learnt.
Here is Priya and Amy's video.

Disaster Coming!

This week in Year 4 we have been creating global problems.  We have then designed robots to save the world from these disasters.  To prepare ourselves for writing a narrative, we interviewed experts about the disasters in our own News Round videos.  Here is the trailer for them and one of our videos.

Rock the Boat

This week the children created their own boat to replace Titanic in the story 'Titanicat'. Can you spot the five senses in Ashton's writing?

Have you ever seen such a snowy white boat. While the turquoise waves smash on the gorgeous boat it sails dramatically. Occasionally, the boat suffocates in the freezing cold bubbly, blue sea. The smell of rotten salmon invades my nose. The boat tastes of the salt from the cold, freezing sea. The windows shiver because the freezing cold salt water splashes them like a speed boat sprinting through the sea. The boat hears the waves splashing. Ashton (3B)

Sinking Kennings

Last week in literacy 3C we're looking at different types of Poems linked to our theme Titanic. On Friday we went outside and looked at how ice moved on the playground. We collected language whilst looking at the ice and then wrote kennings about icebergs.

The ice
A life taker,
A penguin hider,
A ship sinker,
A fridge freezer,
A quick slider.
Aaron 3C

The iceberg
A sly ship murderer,
A huge penguin saver,
An ignorant people killer,
A sneaky cunning hider,
An evil life ruiner.
Shannon 3C

An iceberg
A ship sinker,
A slippery saver,
An underwater killer,
A gigantic floater,
A big slider.

To Make a Robot

This week in 4E we looked at a poem called 'To Make an Ogre'.  It has lots of lovely metaphors!  We enjoyed reading it so much that we wrote our own poems called 'To Make a Robot' based on it.  We worked in pairs to write our poems.  Which is your favourite metaphor?

Melting Kennings

This week year 3 have been learning about Kennings and Caligrams. We have linked this to our topic which is Titanic so we went outside to look at ice and how it moves!

We then used our ideas to write Kennings!

A colossal boat destroyer.
A calm captain panicker.
A silent filler.
An oak wooden deck ripper.
A death bringer.
It is like a monster rising.

A solid crasher.
A patient waiter.
An aggressive wave fighter.
A silent swimming
It is a wave pusher!
Natasha

A spiky reflector
A ice freezer
A ship demolisher
A transparent waiter.

Revolutionary Inventions

In 4E we have been designing our own inventions and creating adverts for them.  Here is Amy's Super Stationary Swapper.  We think it would be a welcome addition to our classroom!

The Happy King's Castle

Year Three have been learning all about explanations this week. The children designed their own machine which would keep a king happy and clean his castle from top to toe! Here is an extract from Diya's explanation.

Do you suffer from an enraged king? If so buy this mammoth machine which will clean the whole castle of yours. But how does it work?

To start the machine you will have to simply press the red button, a big spark will spin around in the pump. Meanwhile,  a dashing flash will appear and get the machine started.

Message from the Queen

This week Year 3 have been learning about the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. We watched a section of the coronation and thought very carefully about what happened and how she might have felt. We then wrote a diary entries pretending to be Queen Elizabeth.

Dear Diary,

Today was a special day because I became the Queen! First they gave me a brilliant gold robe. Have you ever seen such a gold robe? I felt embarrassed but I felt exquisite. Then I was handed a golden glittery sceptre. Suddenly the crown was brought to me on a soft fluffy pillow. The glittery golden crown was placed on my head and I was Queen!

On Our Playground

This week 3C went outside for their learning. We worked together as a team to carry out some different activities. Then we split into smaller groups to explore our playground. We found little objects that we found interesting and brought them together. We used alliteration and adjectives to describe the objects. When we came back into the classroom we used our adjectives alongside some verbs to create a poem of all the exciting things we found on the playground.

Our outdoor poem

A slippery slimy stick,A happy hopping hula-hoop,A murky moldy mushroom,This is what we have found!

A cracked curvy cone,A smooth smelly shin-pad,A lovely lonely leaf,This is what we have found...On our rough rocky playground!

From the Window

This week in 4E we took our learning outside!  We brought our iPads with us and took pictures of different things that would inspire our poetry.  We then used Pic Collage to present our poems and pictures.  Here are some of our poems:

Once upon a time...

This week Year 3B have been writing their own Fairy Tales. The children were given three objects to inspire them. Holly had a frog, a crown and a wand! See if you can spot them in her narrative!

Once upon a times on a lily pad as slimy as a snake there lived a friendly frog. Leaping, the lonely frog jumped from lily pad to lily pad. Every day he hoped to catch a glimpse of the princess because he loved her.

Eventually, the princess ran down to the clean pond so she could bounce in the med. Have you ever seen eich a muddy, nice princess?

Suddenly, she almost stepped on the frog but luckily the frog said "ribbit". If she had stood on him he certainly would have been squished in the mid. A few seconds later, she decided to take him home.

Although he was squishy, slimy and green he was actually a pretty prince who was born in England....
