Vicious Vikings

This week the children decided that they would like to use the computers to create a non-chronological report. They wrote about a very vicious Viking called Leif Erikson!

Here is an introduction by Ashton and Keira

From War With Love

Year 4 have been imagining we were part of the fighting in World War 1. What would we write to a loved one back in England?
Here's an example of what we came up with.

Dear Lighthouse Keeper,

I am so sorry that I did not get to send you a letter a while ago but they did not tolerate us to send letters then. I do hope you can come and visit me or even the opposite. I just can't wait to see the lighthouse again afterwards but it might be quite hard. I can never say goodbye to my mates.

Yours sincerely,
Soldier Bob

The Vikings are Coming!

This week year 3 have been writing narratives inspired by the story 'The Vikings are Coming!". We hope that you enjoy reading them, and they aren't too scary!

One sweltering, stormy day Diamaid, Tom and Ben were playing happily in the castle garden. They were having a bunch of fun when suddenly they saw a fierce dragons head and a longboat. He knew it was the Vikings, and they were terrifying! (Diya)

Suddenly Diamaid bolted into the small, dinky, poky village. Diamaid yelled at the top of his voice "The Vikings are coming!" Next they scurried to the round, curved tower scared to death. They were all scared because the Vikings were deadly, scary, vicious people. The villagers were shocked and scared deep down in their heart. Holly (3B)

Thursday 20 November 2014

This week the children have been writing Viking narratives. They imagined and described their own terrifying Viking character. We hope that you enjoy reading them!

Banging into battle his rough skim rattled like a toy. Swish! Splosh! The Viking battled among the mud. Whilst he walks among the long road it smells like rotten fish. His boat smells like the sweat of a hard working man. If you go near him it will make you feel sick.
Diya

Charging into battle, this disgusting Viking is carrying an axe which is shiny. Because he has been to war he knew how to fight. Have you ever seen a red river of blood? Slowly, his tatty clothes fall down in the wind.

Squelch! Whilst he walks he is concocting a plan. His brown leather shoes sink into the stony mud. I can hear his voice roaring across the deserted village because he killed all the people.

Whilst he plods the smell of stale sweat and the blood of the people he has killed invades my nose.

Vicious Vikings

This week we have been writing about Vikings! The children had a lesson in which they got to choose any text type to write about Vikings! They even had to generate their own learning intention and success criteria!

LI: To write a non-chronological report

Introduction
The Vikings are fierce. They have armour and also boats.

Gods
The Gods are called Thor, Freya, Loki and Odin. These Gods lead the Vikings in how to live.

War
The Vikings stomp into war carrying their armour. They fight as well as they can and they always come back cheering because they always win.

Long-boat
The long-boat has shields at the sides and it has a big flag. It has oars so that the Vikings can steer the long-boat. The long-boat is how they sail across the Severn Seas.

By Holly

LI: To write instructions

How to be a Viking
If you are a Viking you must battle with swords and shield and have a helmet to keep your head safe.  Have you ever wanted to be a strong Viking? There are five main Gods who are called Loki, Frey. Freya, Thor and Odin. Sometimes you will need to defend yourself with a strong shield.

WW1 Poetry

In 4E we have been looking at different WW1 poems this week including some from Year 6.  After exploring and editing other people's poems, today, we wrote our own. Here are some we'd like to share.

In the vast trenches soldiers defend themselves
while they fight their enemies.
Quickly, the bullets all fire at the same time.
It smells like gas, rotten fish, coffee and smoke.

Lonely trenches are dilapidated
because the enemies are taking over.
Heartbreakingly, good people are afraid.
They never give up.

Rudely and roughly, you could see
the flesh rots
off those who didn't make it.

-Temitola (4E)

In the terrifying, horrifying trenches I can smell...
Super smoke rising from the mystic sky
It rises as high as sky scrapers.
Much higher than you or me.

In the terrifying trenches I can hear...
People screaming for help.
The enemy charging like a furious bull;
like an angry rhinoceros.

In the horrifying trenches I can see...
Smoke rising from the bombs
Bombs exploding like bursting balloons.

-Felix (4E)

In the terrifying trenches...
I can smell...
Disgusting mud sliver up my ankles.
The ghastly gases coming to take our lives.

I can hear...
People screaming like animals.
Bombs crashing wildly.

-Emre (4E)

Lovely Limericks

In year three we have been learning to write limericks! Today we got to perform our favourite limerick to the class. Some of us used drums, some of us used pictures and some of us used our expression and bodies. We hope you enjoy watching them as much as we enjoyed writing them!

Upleveled in London

In Year three we have been re-writing the story Katie in London. Adding in our new characters and using our descriptive language.

One summer day Katie, Jack and Grandma went on a red, pretty bus to London. Grandma fell asleep so she said to Katie and Jack to stay close. Then they met a statue then suddenly it came to life. The statue is beautiful and sweet. The statue is a leopard.
“Do you mind?” the cheetah exclaimed grumpily. Katie explained that she was just doing what she was told so the cheetah said “ I will take you to see the sights of London!”
Carefully, the small cheetah took the tiny children to sdee the wonderful shard and they thought it was amazing. They went to St. Pauls Cathedral, which Jack thought was incredible, before having lunch.
After lunch the incredible cheetah took the minute children to see Buckingham Palace with all the changing guards.
Harrison (3C)

One day there were two children called Katie and Jack. They were going to London with their Grandma. They went on a bus. When they got there Grandma was sleepy so she said to the children you two go and stay by that Zebra. So Katie and Jack went to climb the Zebra. Suddenly the sun rose upon the Zebra and the Zebra came to life. The two children were flabbergasted.
The Zebra said “Do you mind?” in an angry voice. Jack said “We are so sorry our Grandma told us to stay by you while she has a long nap!” Then Katie said “Please can you take us to see all the sights of London?” and the Zebra said “Well of course, Let’s go!” in an exciting voice.
So off they went to see the London eye and the Zebra said “Why don’t we go and see the queen!” very excitedly.
Macey W (3C)

Katie Jack and Grandma got on a huge, beautiful, red and pink bus to London. After that they went to Trafalgar square but Grandma went to sleep on a long brown bench. Then Katie and Jack found a frog statue and climbed on it really slowly. The sun shone up and the frog statue turned golden.
After the frog statue turned golden he came to life and he said “Do you mind?” The statue frog said to Katie and Jack “Why are you on me?”
“Because Grandma said for us to stay with you.”
“Ok you can stay with me.”
“Can we go and see the sights?”
“We can.” So the frog took them to the wonderful shard first.
“Let’s go on the London eye!” Said Katie and Jack together “Yes it’s incredible”
“Why?” Said the frog.
“Because it is going to be awesome!”
After that Katie and Jack got very dizzy and then they went to Buckingham Palace.

Dragon Reports

In 4W we've been creating dragons and writing reports about them. Here is an example.

Introduction

No one has ever seen a dragon. Most dragons live in a cavern or in a labyrinth where they capture their victims and imprison the witnesses. So where are these critters? All answers will be found in this report.

What is their habitat?

Dragons can be found in the sky so when you see a plane, it is actually a pearl winged dragon! They always have two houses although, if you are going to France beware of the boisterous dragon in his crystal cave.

What do they eat?

Maidens, peasants, damsels watch your back! These self-centred brutes like to eat all these people but it also only devours burning water from the core of the sun.

Katie in London

In Year Three this week we have been looking at the book Katie in London. We have interviewed our main character the Lion, and found out all about his life as a statue. Today we looked at a new character to replace the Lion in the story. We wrote descriptions of our new characters.

The fantastic cheetah is as fast as Usain Bolt. Suddenly, the spotted cheetah creeps as sly as a fox. Spotted, his fur is as is as exciting as Legoland. The cheetah sounds like a T-Rex waking up. Quietly he sneaks up on his pray suddenly, he lets out ferocious roar. He smells like rotting meat and rotten flesh. He also smells like dirt.
Moses 3C

The sinful Jaguar looks like a leopard. Its vicious fangs are always ready for attack! Surprisingly, she is a fearless cat and a mother of eight. Silently, the octuplets get ready for battle.
Together when all nine Jaguars roar they sound like ten angry lions. In fact they are almost a lion. Their tiny hideaway is made of squishy, mouldy rose vines. They smell like rose vines as well because they don’t wash.
Fleur 3C

The Cheetah
Eyes as blue as the sky, the cheetah’s muscles are as hard as a rock. His voice is as deep as the sea. His fur smells like raw meat.

My Dragon

This week Year 4 have been designing dragons.  Here is an example of one of our descriptions.  We have been focusing on different openers.  Which opener your favourite?

When he is in the mood, the horrible hornisaur silently stalks its prey.  This dreadful monster has horns like an antelope and a mouth like a gecko.

Roooarrr!  The huge, horrid hornisaur growls like a snoozing giant.  He has a raging personality.  Suddenly the hornisaur sprouts his wings to fly high into the bright blue sky.

Georgia 4E

On his face he has a tattoo of a dragon however it is green a mouldy like seaweed.  As he swings his arms his large fist flies around.  Sometimes his found head changes shape.  I discovered that he a ring that shoots out lasers, which make you evil.  Important things to him include peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Katie in London

This week the children have been reading the story 'Katie in London'. It's all about a lion statue who comes to life and takes two children on a fantastic tour of London! Year 3 used hot seating and interviewed the lion to get to know him better as a character. Here are some of their questions and answers.

How did you feel sitting on that cold rock?
I felt bored, cold, freezing and very upset.  (Ryan)

Why did they build you in London? Would you like to visit anywhere else?
I do. I want to go to Saint Albans park but I'd also love to have a warmer blanket. (Keira)

How do you feel sitting in Trafalgar Square all day?
I feel lonely because I have no one to play with me. (Maisie)

Why do people stare at you?
People stare at me because I have a fabulous pose! (Sweeden)

Why don't you ever move off the cold stone?
It's because when they built me they said to sit here. (Diya)

Reach for the Sky

In Literacy this week 3H children carried out some hot-seating. Using Drama they put themselves in the role of a TV interviewer and the architect of a new skyscraper.

Following this, the children devised questions for the interview. Children had to think carefully about how they would answer these questions.

Descriptive Pictures

Today in 4E we looked at a variety of pictures. We used backing paper to record out ideas, which we will use to write our descriptions tomorrow.

Villain Descriptions

In 4W we’ve been looking at myths and writing descriptions of our villains. These are some of our favourite descriptive phrases.

“She is as vicious as a vampire.”
“Lethal.”
“She has evil eyes.”
“She is a hefty, towering lamppost.”
“Slimy, slithering snakes.”
“Her snakes are like giant worms sticking out of her smooth head.”

Can you guess who all these children chose as their villain?

Where is London

In our geography lesson this week we looked at where London was. This linked to our theme to our literacy project looking at buildings in London.

3C researched where London is in the world, comparing it to other places and used geographical language.

London is north of Africa and west of America. London is south of Scotland. London is in the United Kingdom.
Amie and Kieran (3C)

London is in the continent of Europe. It is a very ginormous city in England. London is south of Scotland and at the top of the world!
Frankie, Macey H and Uzo (3C)

The UK is made up of small countries. London is in England and near Wales. London is a humongous city: make sure you bring a map!
Claudio and Corey (3C)

London Calling!

This week year three have been learning about instructions. We started the week by learning how to follow instructions carefully and picked out the features.

Then we wrote a description of a skyscrapper! Next week we will be writing instructions for how to build them and for how to travel to them in London! So keep your eyes peeled!

Have you ever seen such a tall glistening building? Standing straight, the skyscrapper marches through London like a brave soldier. Angrily, it pierces the white fluffy clouds to heavy tears. Scared, tourists run past despite the building being a gentle giant. Also, it is a teacher guiding its pupils. Eventually, the smell of smoky gas swims through the air and invades my nose. Grandly, the huge skyscrapper over looks the city.  Natasha (3B)

Have you ever seen an amazing skyscrapper? The wind kisses the tiles of the exterior. At night the skyscrapper pierces the stars. I can smell the smoky London gas invading my nose. Reflecting, the tiles insult my eyes. Daniel (3B)

Shiny skyscrappers in the fog look invisible and cut the clouds. I can smell red burning hot dogs being cooked. Glass stairs are growing into the sky. Katelyn (3B)

Two Dragons

This week Year 4 will be rewriting the myth of the Two Dragons.  We will be changing the Dragons into our own villains.  Here is an example of our descriptions.

Slice, the slimy, scaly octopus stretches his tentacles.  his bobbly plunger like tentacles feel like a hoover.  His eyes are as big and black as a bowling ball.

Raged, he shoots his ink delicately into the sky.  As soon as his enemy appears he uses his navy ink.  His pale purple skin is camouflaged in the deep, dark sea.

The Hare and the Tortoise

Over the past two weeks the children have been learning about fables and have focused upon The Hare and the Tortoise. First, they learnt to re tell the story orally, using actions for support. They finished the unit by writing their own version of the story with their own character and setting.  Here are some extracts from their narratives.

One beautiful sunny day a mean Hare was teasing a snake so they decided to have a race!

Suddenly, the hare had a little snooze. He thought that as he was so far away that the slow tortoise would never catch up with him.

All of a sudden the hare jumped up from his sleep. He stretched his arms and legs. "I have so much energy now so I am going to carry on and beat that slow snake". Olivia (3b)

Tired, the selfish, green snake yawned unpleasantly. Suddenly he pelted towards a tropical high hill although he would claim that he stumbled upon his sleeping spot. Because this spot was so comfy he decided to have a snooze. Plop! All of a sudden a rough acorn awoke the sleepy, lazy snake. She looked all around but no one was there. She saw the tortoise celebrating happily she couldn't believe that he had won the race! Slow and steady wins the race. Sweeden (3b)

Friday 19 September 2014

3B have been writing a description of their own animals, which they are going to use to rewrite the story of the Hare and the Tortoise.

Suddenly I noticed the sharp, venomous teeth glowing in the forest sky. It slithers through the forest with its slim body which slithers silently. Have you ever smelt this amazing creature? It slithers quickly through the pitch black forest. After it slithers through the dark forest it bites with its razor sharp teeth through it’s pray.
Harry (3b)

Crunch! Have you ever heard a crack from the dusty foot prints in the leaves? Have you ever seen a wild dog rolling anxiously in the leaves? The dog, who was running silently, darted through the thick forest. Scared, its fur prickled like a sharp knife. Zooming on the forest floor, it danced in the sun. The forest was dark and dim but to him it was a snuggly bed on a cold Sunday morning.
Holly (3b)

Extinct Animal Poetry

In year 4 we have been writing poetry about Extinct Animals.  See if you can pick out the figurative language we have been learning about.

Dreadful Dinosaur

His mammoth, massive, mouth meticulously opens to eat his prey.
His skin is scaly and rough; bumpy like a road.
The dreadful dinosaur's eyes shoot out while he catches his prey.
He has a gigantic body; great enough to make coats from 12 men and 5 ladies.
Slowly, he plods to drink from the vast lake.
Razor sharp, dagger slim teeth stand up like soldiers.

Sports Poems

Year 4 have been writing poems relating to out theme: Team Sports.  We looked at various different poems and then we wrote out own.  Here are a few that we wrote about Brazil, where the World Cup will be help this year and about football.

In Brazil

In Brazil I can see-

The sun shining as bright as the hot sand on the beach.

The fish flushing down on top of the ocean.

The sand being walked on enthusiastically by the sea water.

By  Ross

In Brazil

High in the sky a sun crawling like a spider.

In the water below, fish are swimming in the salty sea.

Palm trees swaying to the breeze lethargically.

Voices speaking everywhere that a tornado

Mixed it all up.

Here comes England

Here comes England

In their eyes is determination to win as their tops came on the field

Ready to win

Ready for victory

Excited but worried

Wondering what’s going to happen

The crowd was going crazy

Here comes Germany

Determined to win

Butterflies

A dream gone wrong

A lifetime of disappointments

By Neola

Here Comes England

Here comes England determination in their eyes

With their invisible book of skills

The little they need it

A belly of butterflies flying

O thought of winning

A day dream away

Here Comes England

Look here comes England

with their champion’s feet like.

Soldiers marching along with their perfect skills

practice makes perfect.

The Energy Poem

Energy that what it takes.
To be warm in our homes
And bake our cakes.
Deep we search for oil.
Inside the earth between
the soil.
Energy, some
come from coal.
From mines it goes.
Deep from rocks so old.
Sun and our wind our always
free to make electricity
Energy comes from wind or sun.
Coal and oil gets the work
get done!

Tuesday 21 January 2014

Year Four have been looking at the story of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Ted Dewan. They have used this as inspiration to design their own robots to solve their problems. Here are snippets from some of our robot and setting descriptions.

The Robo 2000 is no ordinary robot. In just a few moments it can hoover an entire room leaving the carpet as soft as golden sand between your toes. He is as majestic as a magician finishing his tasks within the blink of an eye. He cleans like a flash of lightning  and occasionally he even does the washing up.
By Danielle

Scolo 6000 is not just chic it’s extraordinary! Don’t think I’m being ridiculous because if you do you are wrong! Its cuboid head turns all the way around like a ravenous owl searching for its petrified prey which is hiding among the filth that is my room.
By Nancy

As I stumbled across the putrid mess of the disaster that was my room I slip on an old maggot infested pizza! At the edge of my room I can see a sticky spider web stuck to the wall as stiff as a solid statue guarding the mess. Despite the drawers being closed I can still hear spiders scuttling around inside while they hide from the prying eyes of the spiders. Even though I close my nose, the smell of dirty dampness still invades it nose, stinging me as I breathe in. Dust is thrown into the air with the wind of a passing bee zooming like lightening through the danger zone.
By Asher

The Busy Bot 2000 has everything you need from a hoover to a microwave. The coolest thing about this robot is that it can transform into a car, a table, a chair, a box as small as a mouse to store it in mini spaces and many more objects! This robot will suite all of your needs. It also looks very pretty as is it is a gleaming ruby red. One of the trendiest features of the Busy Bot is its I pod which is stuck to the Busy Bot’s polka dotted back, ready to perform at a seconds notice.  You won’t hear the Busy Bot moving, as it glides from one place to another as silently as an owl drifting through the night.
